1896 Kabo corset

United States
Patent Date: February 29, 1896. A black coutil corset with black sateen bone casings made by the Chicago Corset Company (Aurora, Illinois) which produced the Kabo and Ball's corset lines, both famous for having "no brass eyelets".
This particular model of corset, has a high, boned bustline and originally had button on shoulder straps to support a large bust. It is stamped on the inside lining as being a "long waisted" model which would have been suitable for a tall lady up to 5'9". Kabo corsets were also made in "Extra long waisted" lengths for even taller women.
White cotton lines the inside of the corset. The corset is boned in watchspring and has a long, curved flexible busk which originally had a busk protector behind it. Busk protectors prevented the busk from snapping in two from repeated bending over, movement, etc. Black (now faded to brown) lace trimsthe top of the corset.
Kabo corsets did not use metal grommet holes but instead used matching fabric loops in which the corset lacing was inserted.
Measurements: Bust 36 1/2", Waist 27", Hips 36", Busk length 13 1/2".
